Entry 009: The Community Grimoire Is Underway!

[Don't forget to join my blog and follow to receive weekly updates!]

The House of Sacred Mother and Child and North Georgia Solitaries have come together to create a Community Grimoire!

This grimoire will be full of all kinds of information, experiences, and creative materials from all around the Pagan Community. We believe that community is sacred, so who better to put together a sacred text than a community without walls. There is no geographic limitation, we would love to have cultural materials from all over the world--after all, the Pagan Community isn't just local, but extends to our brothers and sisters worldwide. We ask for submissions of original materials only. Authors of original materials will receive full credit and recognition for their submissions. If you have any material that belongs to another author you believe should be in the Community Grimiore, please contact them and have them submit the material so they can receive full credit for it.

The goal of the Community Grimoire is to provide a resource filled with traditions and experiences from several cultures from all over the world and from right here at home. It is a medium of learning and creative inspiration that can be passed on from person to person and continually added to year after year. The most important thing is to have fun with this project and to enjoy the experience of coming together to share your knowledge and wisdom that will be passed down through the ages.

If you are interested in submitting articles or workshops to this community grimoire, please email me at the Community Grimoire Team to send your submissions. Help to make our community grow!

  1. I am currently going through my own personal book of shadows and making a lot of changes to it. I am updating information, adding some things, and removing other items as I get further in. Sometime this week, as I am going through my bos between schoolwork and writing our ritual for Imbolc, I will set aside the items that I want to contribute and shoot you an email about them.

How big does this community Grimoire that is being worked on have to be before it gets published? Also, how many people are currently aware that this project is under way, other than those of us here at the House of the Sacred Mother and Child and Lady Charissa? Lastly, do we have any way of getting the idea for the project out so that other people who may want to contribute are aware of it?

Personally, I think this is a great goal to work towards. It will surely show how strong our community connections can be when we all join together to work on a singular project. In fact, I think a project of this nature goes hand in hand with the them of the ritual for Imbolc that I am writing. It's all about growth and strength of community. As individuals we are strong people, however, if we band together with our community we are capable of so much more in many instances.

As the days are growing longer and the signs of life are frist starting to come back to the earth on many parts of the globe, to start a project of this nature. Hopefully, as the year goes on it will continue and snowball into something tangible so that we can all grow closer together. A community grimoire made up of completely original materials could also be an invaluable and irreplaceable resource for many individuals or groups in our community. Although many of us have facebook accounts, phone numbers, and e-mail addresses, it is not often enough that we utilize the connections that we have put before us in our community. Perhaps something of this nature will show how invaluable the people in our community and our loved ones are as the spring comes on.

The energies of this season are evident as new things flower all around us, many new endeavors are being undertaken, and ideas are free-flowing. Let me know your thoughts on all of this when you get a chance.

    1. Imber,

The Grimoire will be posted online so it will be made available to all. The publication and copy-rite protection is just to protect the work and integrity of all who participate. Cris and I will probably publish it once we feel it has a well-rounded font of information so it isn't too one-sided.

Not all entries will be original. People are free to enter spells, chants, traditions, etc...that they have found or learned from other resources SO LONG AS they give credit to those sources and do not claim it for themselves. We will be checking up and doing research behind each entry to ensure that plagiarism is not an issue.

I look forward to seeing your contributions. :)

    2. Posting it online so that it is available to everyone is a great idea; it will give people access to it that would otherwise not have that information. I also agree that publishing it to protect the authors and their work is the best way to go about it. However, my question is, how do we make enough people aware of the project so that we have enough information to publish it?

I just feel that since this is a community grimoire, it should be expected that a fair amount of people from the community participate. I'm not saying that it should be a "requirement" or anything like that; just that more than a handful of people should contribute to this gathering of information.

  2. We'll be advertising it all over Facebook and on our social networking groups. I've already shared it on Facebook, Vampire Metrou, Witchbook, and soon I'll post it on Witchvox. All of North Georgia Solitaries will see it, and I'll probably talk to Silver about it soon and post it to the Grove of Draconis. They'll share it with people they know as well. Not to mention Cris has many different networks she's involved with. Who knows, maybe this will get big enough to get CoG's attention once again. ;D

  3. It's good to know that the information will be getting around to a good number of people in the community. Hopefully, we will be able to come with a grimoire with a variety of information for all who are interested.

  4. I would like to state how excited I am that the community is coming together to create something so powerful, so wonderful. It makes my spirit soar to know that so much heart and soul (and magick) will be going into this project. We are creating a legacy here for all who choose to give to this project for many generations to come. I will be looking forward to submitting my own prayers, spells and rituals to the project. Good luck, Flame and Lady Charissa, if you need any help from me let know, and I will be happy to, Goddess willing, help in anyway I can. Blessed be.

  5. Thank you very much, the both of you. The two greatest ways in which you could both provide help at this point in time is to contribute whatever you feel like contributing ,and to spread this article around on FB and any other groups you may know. That would help out tremendously--the more people who know about it, the better. I've even got some friends from overseas who are interested.

I'm thinking about tackling Witchvox soon whenever I have the free time to do it. See if I can drum up a larger response locally first, and then spread out from there.

  6. this is such a wonderful idea! Community is so important these days. And there are so many of us looking for a place to start. I think a community grimoire would be a great asset to any community!

Witchvox is definitely a place to start, too. You can submit articles and such. This would be something very good that will be read and acted upon, I am sure!!
